Omaui features an often empty, ever changing beach to walk on. A beachcombers paradise.

You can spend your time at Whare Manu relaxing right here in Omaui. The cottage provides games, books and puzzles. Or you may want to discover the beach, bushwalk or just relax on the deck watching the birds.

If you are looking to venture further afield this is a great base to take day trips around Invercargill, the wider Southland area, The Catlins, Bluff and Stewart Island.

On Your Doorstep

The Omaui bushwalk goes through mature Southland native coastal forrest. Large ancient Rata trees are a feature. The track is a round trip of 4.7kms of easy to steep gradient. With a reward at the top of magnificent views of Foveaux Strait & Stewart Island.

Birdlife

Omaui is home to many native species. It has an active environmental trust working hard to enhance native flaura & fauna.
At various times of the year Tui, Korimako (Bellbirds), Kereru & Piwaka (Fantails) are common around the village.
On the bushwalk you may hear or see Red Creasted Kakariki, Ngirungiru (Tomtit), Titipounamu (Rifleman) & Mātātā (Fernbird).
